Mt. Airy Presbyterian church is a PC(USA) church, governed by The Book of Order, which is available online as a PDF.

The Elders are the spiritual leaders and ruling group within in the local presbyterian Church. These men and women gather together monthly as The Session to pray, discuss, and vote on the decisions to be made on behalf of the church. The Pastor is the moderator of the session and sets the vision for the local congregation. The congregation sets aside certain members to recruit people to serve as session members for a term of at least three years
Elders work with committee members in areas such as Worship, Christian Education, Evangelism & Mission, Property, and Financial matters within the church.

The Deacons are made up of women and men dedicated to reaching out to the hurting, the lost, and the friendless. They are the people who care for the poor, assist in visitation and meet the direct needs of those in and outside of the church. Just like Elders, Deacons are also elected and ordained officers within in the church who serve for a term of at least three years.

Even within our structure there are people who feel called to serve in unique ways. We celebrate the diversity of gifts within this congregation. Ministry leaders perform duties, such as reading scripture and liturgy during services.
